Dr Giles's research interests currently focus on prion diseases and span basic science to clinical applications. His main research projects include the inactivation of prions, and developing methods for use in clinical settings; determining the molecular basis of prion transmission barriers between species; developing new therapies for treatment of prion diseases; and understanding the endogenous function of the prion protein and homologous proteins.
