Dr. Colby's research encompasses understanding the conformational differences in the prion protein which give rise to prion strain diversity. This work is approached primarily by the creation of new 'synthetic' prion strains from recombinant protein refolded into distinct conformations in vitro. Dr. Colby has also developed novel tools for prion detection in order to pursue this work.
